My Cowash + Detangle: Inspired by Naptural85!

Hello people,

I finally gathered the courage to wash my hair after 2months 2weeks!
I feel like I have conquered the world! Yay!!

Not washing for 2weeks would make some people's scalp revolt. Let's just say my scalp has been "tea tree oil-trained". So when it starts to itch or flake and all, I just feed it with tea tree oil and it behaves. And my scalp is clean and healthy and normal.

Now, I have a confession to make. For the whole of the two months and two weeks,  I did not moisturize my hair.
Now wait before y'all come at me for being my hair's worst offender, I wore my hair in threaded for the most of the first month and it was protected in the thread, always covered up by a wig cap, and then covered by a wig when I had to leave the house.
This wig.

And then by the end of January, I loosened the thread to long, stretched hair, with scalp sebum and debris built up at the point where the thread started. The back of my hair was worst hit with the build up. Nonetheless, growth was obvious. All I did at this point was ease up the build up by applying Vatika Coconut Oil to my hair and scalp. And that I did weekly.
I applied Hawaiian Silky Argan Oil

I didn't moisturise because I wanted to wear my hair stretched. And you know moisturizing will encourage reversion to curls and shrinkage. No way, I didn't want that. So, I survived by finger detangling weekly with the Vatika Coconut Oil and simply renewing the style.

I did 3 large flat twists in the front and packed the rest in a really high bun. This hair was the envy of all eyes. I got so much attention thanks to it.

As we approached the end of February, I was tired of the dry end and dirty scalp feeling. I summoned the courage to cleanse my hair and scalp.
At this point, I substituted the Coconut Oil Naptural85 used for my Goya Olive oil (please it's called Olive oil and not Anointing oil, Jesus! *rolls eyes*)
GOYA Olive Oil

I started by sectioning my hair into eight sections with a butterfly clip. Then I applied olive oil GENEROUSLY to each section. You need all the slip the oil gives if not, shed hair won't come out easily.

Butterfly clips helps with sectioning.

After applying all the sections with Olive Oil, I then COATED each section with my conditioner of choice, Tresemme Naturals Vibrantly Smooth conditioner.
TIP:
- Make sure the conditioner is very plenty in quantity.
- Make sure it's cheap because you will be using a lot of it.

I massaged my scalp thoroughly with the conditioner to loosen up dirt and debris. Then I applied some water to work the conditioner. I worked with my fingers first then followed through with my detangling comb gently from my ends first and then all the way to my roots.  The pictures speak for themselves.
Detangling trio.
Tiny little lather.

I'm still amazed at how some people can't believe a conditioner can cleanse hair. This is just with finger detangling.

Naptural85 recommended covering the hair with a shower cap and letting it sit for an hour or more for more moisture but I didn't have all that time, I wanted to go to bed biko. So once I was done cowashing a section,  I applied my leave in of choice, Sensitive By Nature Conditioning Leave in Treatment (a gift) and then some Olive oil to seal.

I then used an ouchless hairband to hold the roots tightly to avoid shrinkage and then plaited the entire section. I used a Bob pin to secure the plait to the roots just to keep it out of the way. (Bob pins were later removed).
One section finished.
Finger detangling the another section.

By the time I was finished with the whole hair, it was 50 minutes. I was so happy.
This has infact, been the shortest cowash + detangle + stretching technique ever!

All done.

I will definitely be repeating this entire method on subsequent wash days which will not be any time soon. Think less manipulation. Also anything to simplify my life right now. I also think having a mirror in front of me to work with made me work kinda faster. Not sure exactly how but it helped.
Clean,  shiny, moisturiser hair.

Naptural85 was racing against time and finished in 25minutes. See her video here or watch the video below.
I finished in a little over 50 minutes. I wasn’t racing against any thing. I just wanted to go to bed before 10pm. And that happened.

So, I  hope you learnt a thing or two. Here's the new wig I just bought which I wore for protective styling. I definitely couldn't go to work with my hair in colored ouchless hairbands.
San makeup

Lol! And this is my 13th wig. Maybe I should do a post on all my wigs, what do you think? Sounds like a good idea, shey?

Till next time,
Xoxo

  7. Naija Ladies in Lagos, please you should be using this product to detangle your hair. Especially if you are wearing lace wigs all the time or protective styles like kinky twist or lock extensions. Your hair is definitely going to get matted at the roots o!

Its already in South Africa anyway.
