Nubian Heritage

I am not a fan of changing my my bathing soap.

I have been using Fair and White Exfoliating and Brightening Soap with AHA since God knows when.

My skin is more sensitive to soaps than lotions, gels or creams. Hence, the reason I can always take an adventure on body lotions of any kind.

But you know how it is, you get bored of using one thing for so long and you want to try something different.

Fair and White Soap with AHA is such a beautiful soap. It has ground apricot seeds as its physical exfoliants. And to further enhance the exfoliating process, it also contains AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) a chemical exfoliant.

I am the queen of exfoliation! I must have said this a gazillion times. I'll gladly try anything that has exfoliating on it; whether it contains a physical or chemical exfoliant.

Let me add that my skin is prone to breakouts and to stop the cycle of acne, I would rather remove dead skin cells so that oils and bacteria see nothing to cling to than kill bacteria and/or reduce oil production.
The moment I discovered that exfoliating worked for me 7 years ago, I made it a major step that I never missed in my skin care routine. It was such a huge break that stopped my acne.

Back to the topic at hand. I got bored and I wanted a change of soap but I was skeptical. I always am. So, I took to searching for something suitable. Nothing with papaya, hydroquinone, clobetasol propionate or mercury to start with. They don't work well for me. The papaya is worse.

So you can feel my pain...

I had a lot of options to chose from: QEI+, Makari, Fair and White So White Soap (I have used that a loooong time ago), Daggett and Ramsdell (D&R) etc and my eyes finally met something sensible that was very far from the norm.

Nubian Heritage Carrot & Pomegranate Soap.

I wouldn't say I was attracted to it because of the Carrot it's made up of. That obviously meant nothing to me. But because it's all plant based and natural. It seemed like something I was less likely to react to. And so I bought a bar for a thousand naira and decided to give it try.

First of all, the soap is very moisturizing.
It lathers well.
And rinses well. It does not leave your skin tight afterwards.
It has a nice fragrance that is not heady.
I'm not sorry to say that I hate soaps with very strong fragrance. I mean does the company think I'm a flower or a bee???

In all, I was impressed on first use.
The ingredients are amazing, so amazing I have to list them out. Something I have never done before.

INGREDIENTS: 100% Vegetable Oils:
Palm Oil and/or Coconut Oil,
Vegetable Glycerin,
Organic Shea Butter,
Pomegranate Seed Oil,
Carrot Oil,
Punica Granatum Extract (Pomegranate Extract),
Cranberry Seed Oil,
Calendula,
Mineral Pigment or Vegetable Color,
Natural Fragrance and/or Essential Oil

A little science to help: all soaps are basically made from the mixture animal and/or plant fat and lye. And so is this one.

The soap is rich in oils, butters and vegetable glycerin, I'm certain that these are the ingredients responsible for the soap's richly moisturizing properties.

Pomegranate is high in Vitamin C and anti-oxidant. It plays a positive role in the repair of sun damaged skin and aging. See the pics below.

Calendula helps with inflammation of the skin.

The soap has tiny micro-exfoliating particles. They are Pomegranate and Cranberry seeds.

The color (vegetable color) and fragrance (essential oils) pretty much explain themselves.

In all, I would say that this is a soap I definitely will purchase again because I had no adverse reaction and my skin tolerated it quite well.

It might not be my regular go-to lightening soap but has earned the prestigious position of being my standby soap should I ever run out of my Fair and White AHA soap. I have 2 bars stashed aside for rainy days *smiles*

The Nubian Heritage Soap comes in different varieties I discovered much later.
- Raw Shea Butter Soap
- Goat Milk and Chai Soap (smells soooo heavenly)
- Lavender & WildFlower Soap

Wouldn't you love to give any one of them a try?

Indulge yourself.
You need it!

Much love,
xoxo
